Or, as Anne Lamotte puts it, you have to learn the whole aviary “bird by bird.”

The enterprise can be frustrating. On so many days just a few words are written, and they don’t sing very well. But if you keep at it day after day, surmounting one obstacle after another, you know that one day you’ll hit your stride.

That’s one expression of faith. Doesn’t feel like faith while you’re doing it. More like dogged, determined, stubborn, persistent work. “The substance of things hoped for.” Faith.
